How the US Federal Reserve Works and the Financial Crisis

Reflections on the Federal Reserve and its Place in Today's Economy is a series of lectures that took place at Georgetown University, the first of which are given the US Chairman of the Federal Reserve (The US Central Bank), Ben Bernanke.

Chairman Bernanke's lectures will begin with the origins and missions of the Federal Reserve, followed by a lecture that will discuss the role and actions of the Federal Reserve in the period after World War II. In the final two lectures, the chairman will review some of the causes of, and policy responses to, the recent financial crisis, focusing specifically on the actions of the Federal Reserve.

One interesting point raised is why gold standard currencies shouldn't be used.
